The Wombles was a BBC children's TV series that lasted for two seasons (60 episodes) from 1974 to 1975, based on the collection of six Wombles novels by Elisabeth Beresford. Some of the books were re-published by Puffin Books with TV-themed covers. A feature-length TV movie called 'Wombling Free' was broadcast in 1977 and novelised in 1978. In addition there were a number of other books based on the TV series. In 1996 a new animated series was made that ran for three seasons (52 episodes) and aired from 1997 to 1998. Fifteen novelisations were published in large format children's books by Hodder from 1998 to 2001.
