Maigret
was a French detective character created by Georges Simenon who featured
in seventy-five novels and twenty-eight short stories between 1931 and
1972. The books inspired the television series made by Granada TV starring
Michael Gambon in the title role that ran for two seasons from 1992
to 1993. Six of the books were re-published with TV-themed covers matching
the six episodes of season one of the TV series. These six books were
also published in a hardback omnibus edition by Book Club Associates.
Prior to the 1990s series there was a BBC TV series that ran for four
seasons (52 episodes) from 1960 to 1963 starring Rupert Davies in the
title role. I do not know of any TV tie-in editions of the books for
this earlier series. A new series of Maigret was made by ITV starting
in 2016 starring Rowan Atkinson in the title role which has run for
two seasons of two film-length episodes based on four of Simenon's books.
The first book adapted for the first story of season one has been re-published
with a TV tie-in cover.
