The
Family Circus by Bil Keane first appeared in newspapers from 1960. The
first book was published in 1966 by Fawcett, who published the vast majority
of Family Circus Books into the 90s, with the exception of some landscape
ones produced by Andrews, McMeel and Parker in the 80s and a few by Judson
Press in the 60s and 70s. The Fawcett books were reprinted several times,
quite often with a change in the background colour or the colour of the
title text. A selection of these is shown at the bottom of the gallery.

The
Family Circus comic strip chronicled the daily life of a typical suburban
family. The strip could find humor in something as ordinary as how
long to bake a potato in the oven or the proper table manners to
follow during family
dinner.
